Polish and Other Slavic Dictionaries of Writers’ Languages
In the introductory remarks, the author reflects on the role of writers in shaping language
and culture, as well as on the development of both non-Slavic and Polish theories concerning
writers’ language dictionaries. The chief concern of the article is an overview of 22 significant
Polish and Slavic writers’ language dictionaries, with a special emphasis on the notable
contributions of Polish and Russian lexicography. Polish dictionaries, in particular, are recognized
for their exemplary scholarly quality. This topic warrants further in-depth analysis
and could form the basis of a comprehensive monograph.
