Abstract

The article examines the joint efforts of Christian and Muslim religious leaders in the Central African Republic in response to the escalation of violence during the Third Civil War. It demonstrates that, despite its frequent portrayal in the media as a religious conflict, the war was driven primarily by political and economic factors, with religion being instrumentalized for partisan purposes. Particular attention is given to the work of the Interreligious Platform (PCRC), which engaged in mediation, interreligious dialogue, countering hate speech, and providing humanitarian assistance. The article also highlights the involvement of clergy in disarmament initiatives, support for victims of violence, peacebuilding actions, and exposing the manipulation of religious narratives. The conclusion emphasizes that interreligious cooperation proved to be one of the few effective pathways to peace in a country marked by structural instability, poverty, and competition for natural resources.
