Abstract

The aim of the presented paper is to characterize moderation systems used by editors of chosen Polish online news services according to users’ comments. On the basis of the MediaPanel survey there were chosen ten most popular online news services in Poland. Only five of them offered a possibility of adding comments by users. The analysis of moderation systems was conducted on two levels: general and detailed. The general level of the analysis refers to typology taking into account a premoderation and a postmoderation. On a detailed level there were identified mechanisms operating within the general moderation model. The study leads to a conclusion that in Polish online news services dominates the postmoderation improved by mechanisms supporting this system, e.g. a social rating system. The discussed issue is related to a significant ethical problem, i.e. responsibility for words in the communication environment of the Internet.
