Call for Papers 1/2027
New Media Education
Issue prepared in cooperation between the Department of Media Education, IEMiD UKSW in Warsaw, and the Instructional & Developmental Communication Section of The Polish Communication Association (PCA).
Contemporary society functions in an era of profound mediatization of everyday life, in which media and artificial intelligence play a significant role. In this context, media education becomes a fundamental condition for full participation in life in any of its dimensions. At present, a clear shift can be observed from a narrow understanding of media education as media literacy toward more complex concepts of media and information literacy (MIL), encompassing the development of informational, digital, civic, ethical, and cultural competencies (Haider & Sundin, 2022).
In Poland, media education remains fragmented and dispersed, and a very large share of responsibility for shaping students’ media competencies rests with teachers (Adamczyk, 2025; Bereźnicka, 2023; Cicha et al., 2021). Consequently, an urgent challenge is the implementation of media education not only within schools, but also through the activities of various social and cultural institutions. Only a holistic and systemic approach to the issue, based on close cooperation among different institutions, can enable media education to be addressed in a relatively comprehensive manner. New challenges related to media use continue to emerge, including disinformation connected with armed conflicts, climate-related fake news, and the broadly understood phenomenon of infodemia (Antunes et al., 2025; Nichols & LeBlanc, 2021). Moreover, the development of artificial intelligence and immersive technologies (VR/AR) raises fundamental questions about the adequacy of existing conceptual categories and the need for new theoretical frameworks (Grabowska, 2025).
In order to take a closer look at contemporary challenges related to media education, the editorial board of the quarterly academic journal „Kultura – Media – Teologia” (eISSN: 2081-8971), published by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, invites submissions of original scholarly articles. Suggested areas of research interest include:
