The article presents the approach to authority in the first papal radio address of February 12, 1931. The aim is to determine, how the exercise of authority was perceived in an era marked by technological development as well as uncertainty, conflicts, challenges, and contradictory ways of developing solutions. Topics related to that situation were addressed. Then, the entities of authority, including the scope of their powers, referred by the Pope Pius XI, were presented, followed by his views on methods and purposes of exercising authority. In conclusion, the topicality of the concept of power as having, according to the Pope, a very important, spiritual
dimension, is accentuated.
