Abstract

Today, as the sphere of intersubjectivity is being increasingly and rapidly colonized by digital media and e-communication, the issues of imaginaria and illusions become very important again. Until relatively recently, one could argue that these have already been understood and explained to a satisfactory degree. In the era of the internet and artificial intelligence, however, they manifest themselves in a new light, reminding us of their lasting relevance.

I examine the issues of illusions and imaginaria from a communicology perspective, while focusing on epistemological aspects. I point to the genealogy of imaginaria and illusions, as well as their genetic connections. In the concept I am presenting, biological world image apparatuses are the original generators of illusions, while imaginaria, as products of the culture, are built onto illusions thanks to communication and communicative media.
