Abstract

How do Holocaust museums present the stories of the youngest participants in the war? What role do children play in their narrative? Do the authors of the exhibitions devote separate exhibitions to them –  or are the children’s fates ‘inscribed’ in the overall message about history? Are the museum presentations dedicated to specific, individual figures or rather to communities of anonymous participants in wartime events? Finally, do the authors of exhibitions depicting traumatic events adapt their message to the perceptive capacities of the young audience? The author of the article addresses those questions and proposes an analysis the narrative lines of selected museums: Yad Vashem – The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, Jewish Museum Berlin, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History, Museum of the Riga Ghetto and Holocaust in Latvia and Estonian Jewish Museum.
