Abstract

Since the dawn of human history, there has been a need to imitate and relate to authorities. The influence of authority was and is one of the pillars of social, cultural and religious life, which is a condition for the success of upbringing and educational activities. In times of social changes, the role and status of the authority changed as well. Traditional authorities: parents, teachers or outstanding personalities of public space replace idols who experience full development. How can idols be compared to saints? Is the comparison even valid? For a certain group of believers, saints have the status of a hero, an idol. The article is an attempt to show the essence of the influence of the phenomenon of mediatization of life on young people, because more and more traditional authorities are being replaced by media idols. The aim of these considerations was to show the essence of media authority – an idol in the life of today’s youth, and to show holiness as a lasting value, perhaps unpopular, but true. The perspective of life shows that man is always looking for fulfillment and infinity. The idol will not provide this. With their lives, the saints have shown that the path they have chosen is the surest.
