Abstract

There seems to be much truth in the thesis that the participants of the IVF and abortion debate make use of many interesting and successful linguistic maneuvers and social techniques which are worthy of further investigation. The attitude of pro-choice activists and groups, which is characterized by a very clear and oftentimes aggressive polemic, can on further analysis paradoxically, provide pro-life advocates with many valuable and successful tools for further discussion. It is crucial that pro-life leaders use communicative and medically-based language, thus avoiding ‘communication jams’ and ‘verbal violence’ with those who think differently.
