Tomasz Wielebski

Abstract

In his apostolic exhortation Christus vivit Pope Francis said that  youth ministry, as traditionally carried out, has been significantly affected by social and cultural changes, notocing also, that the young people frequently fail to find in our usual programmes a response to the ir concerns, their needs, their problems and issues (CHV 202). From the point of view of such papal diagnosis it seems necessary to search for the new form of the ministry so that it would meet the expectations of the youth, taking into account the numerous contexts of the modern world which are responsible for shaping the personalities of the young people..

The author of this article, inspired by the teaching of Pope Francis included in the apostolic exhortation Christus vivit, decided to address the task of identyfing the main measures concerning the renewal of the youth ministry in Poland. The starting point of his deliberations is the concept of the youth ministry described in the apostolic exhortation Christus vivit (1).  Next, on the basis of the report prepared in 2017 by the Polish Episcopalic Conference Council for the Youth Ministry as part of the preparations for the XV Synod of Bishops and basing on the data passed on by all Polish dioceses, the authors presents the overview of the Polish young people (2) and the essence of the youth ministry in Poland (3). The result of this is defining the main measures and guidelines for the future (4).
