The image of Saint Francis as a patron of environmentalists based on children’s artistic and literary works

Magdalena Świtalska

Abstract

The elaboration of the Franciscan-ecological issue in the sources, which are children’s works, is a contribution to the extension of previously explored without data in research on saints and their impact on human social and moral attitudes. The analysis of children’s works is included in the process of hagiological research conducted at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. In the artistic and literary works three elements are very clearly shown around which the narrative of the encyclical Laudato si’ is based: pro-ecological attitudes, human activities polluting the air, hope for the development of human activities leading to air purification. To show and propose Franciscan spirituality as a model for the harmonious relationship of man with God, man with man and man with nature. Based on an in-depth vision of faith.
