Studia Gdańskie is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. The journal follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). The Editorial Board also adheres to the principles set out in the Code of Ethics for Researchers adopted by the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The following principles apply throughout the editorial and publishing process.

1. Editorial Responsibilities

The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board are responsible for ensuring the scholarly quality and integrity of the journal.

Editorial decisions are based exclusively on the academic merit of submitted manuscripts, including originality, methodological soundness, scientific significance, and relevance to the journal's scope.

Editorial decisions are made without regard to the authors' nationality, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, political views, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics.

Editors maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and will not use unpublished materials contained in submissions for their own research without the authors' explicit written consent.

2. Author Responsibilities

By submitting a manuscript to Studia Gdańskie, authors confirm that:

• the manuscript is an original work;
• it has not been published previously;
• it is not under consideration by another journal;
• all sources have been properly acknowledged;
• all listed authors have made a substantial scholarly contribution;
• all co-authors have approved the submitted version of the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for presenting their research accurately, honestly, and transparently. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, and any other form of research misconduct are unacceptable.

Authors are encouraged to make research data, source materials, and supplementary materials available whenever appropriate and consistent with ethical, legal, copyright, and confidentiality requirements. Where applicable, manuscripts should include a Data Availability Statement.

For multi-author manuscripts, the corresponding author must specify the individual contribution of each co-author.

The journal does not tolerate ghostwriting or guest authorship.

3. Reviewer Responsibilities

Studia Gdańskie applies a double-blind peer review procedure.

Reviewers are selected on the basis of their expertise in the subject area of the submitted manuscript.

Reviewers are expected to:

• evaluate manuscripts objectively and constructively;
• maintain strict confidentiality;
• disclose any conflicts of interest;
• decline review assignments whenever a conflict of interest exists;
• identify relevant publications omitted by the authors whenever possible;
• notify the editors of any suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, research misconduct, or other unethical practices.

Reviews should focus exclusively on the scientific quality of the manuscript.

4. Peer Review Process

Each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment before being sent to at least two independent reviewers.

The final decision regarding publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief after consideration of the reviewers' recommendations and any revisions submitted by the authors.

5. Publication Misconduct

The journal does not tolerate:

• plagiarism;
• self-plagiarism;
• duplicate submission;
• duplicate publication;
• fabrication or falsification of research data;
• citation manipulation;
• ghostwriting;
• guest authorship;
• any other form of research misconduct.

Whenever misconduct is suspected, the Editorial Board follows COPE recommendations and may request explanations from the authors, consult independent experts, notify relevant institutions, reject the manuscript, retract a published article, or publish a correction or expression of concern where appropriate.

6. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the objectivity of the editorial process.

Individuals with a conflict of interest should withdraw from participation in the editorial or peer review process.

7. Corrections and Retractions

If significant errors or ethical violations are identified after publication, the Editorial Board may publish corrections, retract an article, or issue an expression of concern in accordance with COPE recommendations.

8. Copyright and Open Access

Studia Gdańskie is a Diamond Open Access journal.

Authors retain copyright to their work while granting the publisher a non-exclusive licence to publish and distribute the article through the journal website and indexing services.

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0) licence.

The journal does not charge article processing charges (APC) or submission fees (ASF).

9. Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence tools may be used only as writing assistance.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the submitted manuscript.

AI systems may not be listed as authors.

Reviewers and editors must not upload confidential manuscripts to publicly available AI systems.

10. Appeals and Complaints

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a reasoned request to the Editor-in-Chief.

Complaints concerning editorial procedures, peer review, or publication ethics will be investigated fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with COPE recommendations.
