The article deals with the essence and mission of the Catholic University. The author presents the common belief about the discrepancy between the orders of faith and reason. He pays attention to the fact that in research human cognition has been reduced to its utilitarian and positivist approach. In consequence, human cognition is detached from transcendence and science from the concept of objective truth. Therefore, the mission of the university is to restore the original unity of faith and reason.
