Abstract

Journalistic texts on current controversial cultural-ethical topics are undeniably characterized by expressiveness, but so far its
level and quality have not been further studied and compared. The presented text has the ambition to divide the expressions
into appropriate categories and evaluate their quantity and intensity. This is done on a research sample of 543 media texts from five major Slovak liberal and conservative media. The authors shows the different structure of objects of expressive words (phenomena, groups, persons), lexical structure (irony, adjectives, names, metaphors) and thematic structure (radicality, Marxism, fascism, revolution, progressivism, religion, morality, stupidity).
