Abstract

With the progress of secularisation, drastic changes are
also taking place in Polish society. They particularly affect
contemporary youth susceptible to new trends, defined in
sociology as generation Z. The cultural revolution that has
taken place in recent years has had a negative impact on
members of generation Z, making it much more difficult
to take effective pastoral action aimed at this generation.
Young people in the reality of the pastoral year 2022/2023
are a social group that is largely distanced from the Church
and, in part, contesting her teaching, together with the moral
principles and values she proclaims. Among the key problems
of Generation Z is also the decline of authority figures,
including a drastic change in the perception of St John
Paul II. The pandemic isolation and public statements
against the idea of the defence of conceived life have also
had a significant impact on the young. Generation Z young
people do not find themselves in the Church for the most part,
due to a lack of adequate witness in the family environment.
In order to take effective pastoral action, it is necessary
to emphasise the complementarity of pastoral action towards
families and to update teaching methods in school catechesis.
