Sense of community in Eberhard Wolfgang Möllers' Thingspiel Frankenburger Würfelspiel

Abstract

The article describes the formation of a sense of community in Eberhard Wolfgang Möllers' Thingspiel Frankenburger Würfelspiel, which in Goebells' mind is a form of mass theatre with propaganda and agitation nature. The analyzed Thingspiel "Das Frankenburger Würfelspiel" is the last spectacular stage event to take place during the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The paper analyses the text of the performance and describes the elements that enable the formation of a sense of community among a large audience. The following elements of mass staging were described, such as landscape, scenography, music, perspective, and finally stage movement and close physical contact between the audience, who were also assigned the role of active participants in the presented events.
