Abstract

In contemporary times, youth increasingly spend their leisure time using mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. This study investigates how various leisure activities affect the frequency of mobile gaming among Polish elementary school students. CATREG regression analysis on CAWI survey data from 8,350 students across 294 municipalities revealed that digital technologies, including gaming on smartphones, internet surfing, and television watching, significantly influence mobile gaming frequency. Traditional activities such as reading books and hobbies also impact youth behavior, albeit to a lesser extent. No clear connection was found between activities such as cooking or physical exercises and the frequency of game playing, which highlights the need for further research to identify additional factors that may influence these trends. Such conclusions could prove valuable in designing educational and sociological interventions aimed at promoting healthy digital habits and developing media literacy skills.
