Abstract

The consumerism of modern civilization is often accompanied by threats of nutritional dysfunction. Using the method of Prof. W. Pisarek and analyzing the content of social media, a disturbing trend can be observed: anorexics give weight loss tips on the Internet. Paying attention to the phenomenon of eating disorders from the perspective of media science and social communication seems necessary. The inadequate content of comments on the posts of Eugenia Cooney (2 million subscribers) with no reference to the author's disease, the non-normative image of her body, and the perception of her video blogs directly as promoting a pro-ana philosophy, pose new media studies’ questions.
