Abstract

Video games are a medium that draws inspiration from all forms of human activity. One of them are armed conflicts, which were particularly intense in the 20th century. The aim of the article is to present ways of reproducing armed conflicts fought in the 20th century by various types of video games. They influence the formation of collective memory and what significance they have in the cultural and social context. The analysis covers various types of games to show the variety of approaches to presenting historical armed conflicts. Both World Wars, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the First Iraq War were taken into account. The vast majority of the production is based on the events of World War II, but the portrayal of this conflict is very focused on the American participation in this war. The other mentioned wars are less attractive to game developers.
