Abstract

The article describes the phenomenon defined by P. Zimbardo as the Lucifer Effect. This mechanism refers to the influence of situations and circumstances on the psyche and decision-making process of human being. The reflections are based on the scientific experiments of P. Zimbardo, A. Bandura and S. Milgram, as well as on military abuses in the Abu Ghraib prison. Criminal-law assessment of the influence of this effect on the perpetrator's guilt was also a subject of an analysis.
