Abstract

The paper attempts to define the key elements of Christian funeral customs in the early Middle Ages. On their basis, a position is presented in the ongoing discussion about the time of the appearance of the first Christian cemeteries in Poland and their spreading, and thus of the process of "Christianization of death" in this part of Europe.
