Dilemmas on marriage preparation: difficulties and threats. Case study of the archdiocese of Nairobi-Kenya

Abstract

The author of the article addresses the challenge of inadequate marriage formation as a dilemma in discernment of marriage vocation. Existence of a catechetical gap after youth are confirmed is concrete pastoral challenge that has exposed many young people to contemporary sexual revolutionary ideologies that attack the family; LGBT+ as controversial ideology foreign to Africa culture, use of contraceptives, escalation de facto union and dysfunctional families. Consequently, their implications are contextual difficulties and threats causing a decline of marriage and family life. This qualitative analysis explores the cause effect relation of the research problem underscoring the role of the Family and the Church while highlighting the impact of illicit media content as a plaque to correct values and virtues among the youth. Final the author reinforces doctrinal differentia with specific areas for catechetical engagement with proposed practical solutions for pastoral implementation with a consideration of marriage inculturation in Africa.
