The psychological basis of self-image in the light of E.T. Higgins theory as a source of knowledge about the failures of pastoral programs

Dariusz Kurzydło

Abstract

It seems important to be aware that any interpersonal interaction implies – looking from a religious perspective – the presence of two levels of communication: psychological, which is conditioned by speci c personality traits, and supernatural (faith perspective), which remains the work of God and the secret of His love. in this article, the author focuses on the rst element, emphasizing the importance of the self-image that a given person has (or does not have). to illustrate the problem, he invokes the concept of tory Higgins, on the basis of which he tries to indicate several pastoral postulates. Higgins’ theory allows him to show how complex and varied is self-image and what is its meaning on pastoral programs.
