The biblical foundations of the message of mercy

Zbigniew Kołodziej

Abstract

The author explains the concept of Divine Mercy by reaching for the Old Testament and the terminology contained in it. He begins by indicating that the Divine Mercy first manifested itself in the creation of a world whose center is man. God’s Word teaches that this gift obliges him to show mercy to other people in need. God shows his mercy by showing them to sinners and in this spirit he invites them to conversion. When experiencing mercy, you have to show it to others. In this way, we come to the teaching of Jesus. Pointing to the terminology of Mercy in the New Testament, the author shows Jesus’ teaching in this regard by referring to his words and stressing especially the parable of the prodigal son.
