Abstract

Bearing in mind the sometimes tendency to separate faith from sacramental life, on March 3, 2020, the Pontifical Theological Commission issued a document entitledReciprocità tra fede e sacramenti nell’economia sacramentale. Its purpose is to provide general guidelines that may be useful for pastors. The fourth chapter of the document is devoted to the problem of the faith-sacrament relationship of Christian marriage. This chapter covers three points: 1) The Sacrament of Matrimony; 2) Doubtful point: the sacramental quality of marriage to “baptized non-believers”; 3) Intention and establish- ment of a marriage bond in the event of lack of faith. The author presents and comments on this chapter.
