Coitus in Roman marriage law

Abstract

The article entitled “Coitus in Roman marriage law” is devoted to the legal value that Roman law attributed to sexual intercourse between spouses – Roman citi- zens. The sources of Roman law with regard to the causal cause of marriage, the legal requirements for a Roman marriage with particular reference to the requirement for the nupturients to reach a certain age, are analysed. The Roman legislation that imposed an obligation on citizens to marry and produce offspring, inter alia for the implementation of the demographic plans of the Roman state, is then analysed. Finally, the conclusions and conclusion summarise the findings made on the issue.
