The author presents and comments on the speech of Pope Francis delivered on January 31, 2025 to the Tribunal of the Roman Rota on the occasion of the inauguration of the new judicial year. In the presence of rotal judges (auditors), defenders of the marriage bond, promoter of justice, lawyers, court experts and students of the Rotal Study, the Holy Father presented the tasks of the above-mentioned Apostolic Tribunal, i.e. in the area of recognizing and adjudicating in cases of declaring the invalidity of marriage. He also drew attention to the special responsibility of this body of the Roman Curia and the need to conduct its processes nullitatis matrimomii efficiently. He also emphasized the importance of the shortened process (for the invalidity of marriage) before the bishop, introduced a decade ago, and appealed to the diocesan administrators to ensure the proper formation and careful performance of their tasks by those called to serve in diocesan tribunals.
