Abstract

The article addresses the issue of representing sonic dimension in the discourse surrounding the game Cyberpunk 2077. The aim of the conducted study was to determine what image of sonic dimension emerges from the statements of participants in the discourse on the analyzed digital game. The research procedure was divided into three stages: the first stage – determining how frequently participants in the discourse on Cyberpunk 2077 refer to sound, and in which language they do so; the second stage – identifying the words and expressions used to talk about sonic dimension; the third stage – selecting the most significant words and expressions referring to sonic dimension. The analysis was carried out within the field of medialinguistics, in the spirit of Danuta Kępa-Figura’s concept of open medialinguistics. The results indicated that although sound is an integral component of a digital game, it appears relatively rarely in the discourse about this game. However, when participants in the discourse do mention it, they describe it as important for immersion and for shaping the gaming experience. This supports recognizing the role of sound as particularly significant in the perception and reception of a digital game.
