Abstract

This article attempts to answer what information about the building profession and its representatives, operating in the capital city of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the first half of the 18th century, is conveyed by the Vilnius municipal records. The presented considerations aim to characterize the Vilnius "market" for construction services on one hand, and on the other, the professional groups operating within the Magdeburg jurisdiction offering their services in the field of construction works. The primary source basis for these considerations consists of 21 books of Candlemas tax records from the years 1722-1748, stored in the Lithuanian State Historical Archives (Lietuvos Valstybės Istorijos Archyvas).
