Abstract

Alcohol addiction is a problem affecting all areas of human life and therefore requires a holistic therapeutic approach. The aim of this paper is to show how pastoral counseling can creatively combine elements of spiritual counseling with selected knowledge and methods of humanitarian and social sciences, and thus become an effective tool for the internal transformation and healing of an alcohol-addicted person. In order to achieve its goal, pastoral counseling must begin with the unconditional acceptance of the person and focus on all dimensions of their existence. In describing the specific characteristics of the individual phases of the healing process in the context of accompanying alcoholics, we have chosen the typical modality of pastoral counseling, which consists in rewriting and commenting on interviews with alcoholics.
