Abstract

The article is an attempt to present the phenomenon of secularization in the religious and cultural context of Italy. The situation of Italy (caso italiano) in the last twenty years has been chosen as the research area. From the vast literature devoted to this issue, those authors and publications were selected that directly or indirectly present secularization in the context of the Christian faith and the Church associated with it. First, the concept of secularization itself is presented, as well as the current situation of secularization processes on the Apennine Peninsula. The main body of the study is the presentation of valuable comments, indications and postulates that can serve the everyday life of the Church and Christians in relation to secularization and the processes that create it. The pluralistic situation of the contemporary world, together with the advancing secularization, encourages the Church even more to bring the leaven of the Gospel into this world and to develop new and more adequate forms of pastoral work.
