I-voting is one of the alternative forms of voting, also known as remote voting, which consists in casting a valid vote over the Internet from your private device, such as a computer or smartphone. For many years, it has been an element of public debate on electoral law, including international debate. Single countries have successfully introduced i-voting into their electoral system. It has a long list of advantages, but the disadvantages effectively inhibit its rapid and widespread development. It is developed not only top-down, through state actions, but also bottom-up, through local governments and private entities. There is no doubt that, despite everything, it will be developed and more and more widely used in various aspects of human functioning. The aim of the article is to present what i-voting is, to present and discuss its advantages, disadvantages and other features, to show foreign and Polish experiences, and then to draw conclusions and present forecasts for the development of these phenomena in Poland.
