Preaching was and is in the Church the art of proclaiming the truths of the Gospel in such a way as to encourage the listeners to live more deeply the message of Christ. The sermons were meant to stimulate conversion and abide in Christ. Over the centuries, it has become a specific form of communication, changing depending on many social, political and religious factors. The period of the 19th century had great examples of preachers in Greater Poland whose legacy was saved from the turmoil of history. However, many of them have been forgotten. All the more important are the activities that end with the discovery and recall of the preaching heritage of Greater Poland priests from the 19th century. This article draws attention to the person of Rev. Wawrzyniec Kuśniak, the Oratarian from the Congregation on Święta Góra in Gostyń. His preaching about purgatory is presented in a special way. It is in line with the traditional doctrine of the Church, and at the same time closely related to the commandment of love for God and the neighbour. In the key of love, duty and necessity, Rev. Kuśniak tries to point out how important it is to pray for the souls in purgatory and to offer reparation for them in the form of daily mortification.
