Abstract

Theology does not exist in a vacuum separated from cultural, social, and historical contexts; on the contrary, it is deeply embedded in these realities, remaining open to continuous changes and challenges. Since the Second Vatican Council, which initiated significant transformations in the life of the Church, including in the sphere of theology, maintaining unity in the reflection on faith has become a critical challenge. In response to these challenges, the International Theological Commission developed a document titled "Theology Today: Perspectives, Principles, Criteria," which aims to define ways to maintain unity in theology by basing it on common, universal foundations. This article seeks to present the perspectives, principles, and criteria that contemporary Catholic theology should follow, according to the guidelines contained in the document. The analysis will take the form of a general presentation of the basic pillars of theology, their analysis, and comparison with the literature on the subject.
