Abstract

Canons Regular played an important role in medieval Silesia not only in the religious, intellectual, or educational fields but also in economic activities, engaging in various endeavours in this regard.  One of them was fish farming which was strongly related to the expansion of pond networks and other water bodies. This was associated not only with earning money from fish sales but also with providing them for the community kitchen. The Żagań abbey attached particular importance to this form of management, and the monastery's fish farming policy was well thought out, organized, and aimed to protect this vital area.
