Abstract

The article presents the causes and assumptions of the Russification of Greek Catholic churches in the Kingdom of Poland. The main initiator of changes in the iconosphere of the church was Prince Vladimir Cherkassky. This Russian dignitary initiated the creation of a special administration in 1865, headed by Dmitry Moskvin, who was to coordinate the renovation and construction works in 1865-1875. The basic source material was the civil administration files stored at the Russian State Historical Archives and the State Archives in Lublin.
