Abstract

This article analyses how the climate and energy transition accelerated in the  (EU) during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, examining this through the lens of legislative work in the EU. The EU’s response to the crisis caused by Russia on international and European energy markets had two objectives. Firstly, the adopted EU legislation was intended to address the immediate effects of sudden price increases and further strengthen the EU’s resilience to future shocks. Secondly, to increase the energy security of EU countries, the role of renewable energy sources in the transition to a low-carbon economy was significantly increased, raising the EU ambition level for the use of renewable energy sources.
