Abstract

The starting point of the analysis is the observation that the “accusations of populism” reveal, in fact, the crisis of democracy, in which some of the people consider themselves incapable of voting. The author tracks the sources and types of interpretations of populism, showing similarities and differences in the processes of rejecting “the voice of the people” in the totalitarian and democratic logic. Showing the problem of stigmatisation of the contemporary populism, in the course of the analysis, she discusses the thesis that “populists” may be closer to the ideal of the “citizen” than modern uprooted elites.
