Abstract

The article presents the origins of the Catholic Church in the English colonies of North America, with particular emphasis on Newfoundland, Baltimore and the state of Maryland. The article presents the enormous influence of Catholics on the formation of the American tradition of religious tolerance, which was then somehow incorporated by the Founding Fathers of the United States.
