Abstract

Mount Moriah is primarily known as the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Both the Old and New Testaments mention it several times, but in the vast majority of cases they do not refer to it by name, but identify it with the Temple of Jerusalem. The etymology of the name Moriah can be derived from both Hebrew and Aramaic roots. It reveals literary treatments that may offer possibilities for new interpretations of the meaning of this place. The article reveals these treatments and also presents the results of archaeological research on the site.
