Abstract

The article aims to try to show possible parallels between the experience of Siberian children (Theiss 1999, 2018) and the current situation of Ukrainian children during the ongoing war. Referring to selected elements of resilience theory (including Werner, Rutter, Luthar, Cicchetti, Cyrulnik, Borucka, Ostaszewski, Junik), I attempt to locate the protective factors emerging in the fate of the children. While the experience of the former is a closed story, the drama of the current children is observed in real time. I further argue that the described trajectories of the Siberian children exemplify the occurrence of resilience, despite the lack of application of the concept of resilience at the time. Thus, the phenomenon of resilience appears in educational science much earlier than is generally recognized. Finally, I refer to the idea of social pedagogy as a broad perspective for supporting a child in crisis.
