Apart from parents, grandparents have a big influence on the upbringing of children. They are often the ones who show their grandchildren life, teach how to behave, and uphold a tradition. Empirical studies of the author have shown that over 80% of the respondents have a good and a very good relationship with his or her family. Elderly people communicate with their family every day, several times a week, or several times a month. According to 90% of the respondents, they are treated well by their families, they feel loved and needed. In extended families generation bonds are very strong. Older people have a lot more experience and wisdom, so with normal relations, they can become a source of inspiration for the younger generation. According to 93% of the students, their grandparents were (or still are) authority. Young people would like to be as their ancestors. Older people perform the function of caring.
