Abstract

The article deals with the problem of contemporary multiculturalism in the context of tolerance, which is based on the promotion of simultaneous and peaceful co-existence of different cultures and ethnic groups in order to achieve their mutual pervading, enrichment, and development in all-human mass culture mainstream. However, it is emphasized that multiculturalism does not mean any fusion which leads to existence of only one culture. Every culture should be based on its own rules and operate in the field of education and social issues. In this context, the problem of goals and objectives of multicultural upbringing and education arises (inter alia, creating the youth’s awareness of existence of different cultures in the world as well as in their countries, positive tolerant attitude to cultural differences, development of ability to fruitfully dialog with members of other cultures, upbringing in the spirit of peace, etc.) as well as the problem of links with tradition and ancestors’ religion. The attitude not only based on “taking”, but also on “giving” cultural wealth leads to organic development of the whole planet. In order to fulfill multicultural education, everyone who wants to be involved in the education area should be prepared properly. In this context, the problems of contemporary Ukrainian education system are presented as well.
