Abstract

The article presents auxiliary Bishop Ludwik Łętowski as a bibliophile. While searching for the sources of his fondness of books, attention was paid to the cultivation of culture in family circles, the collection of books in his surroundings, and home education. His bibliophilic sense was fully developed when he entered adulthood. The text of the article presents the suffragan's knowledge of his chosen book collections, as well as the cooperation he established with other book lovers. The turbulent times of the 18th and 19th centuries for many libraries were a period of activity for many “bookworms” who robbed church and monastic libraries. Their activity is shown from Łętowski’s perspective. The article is supplemented with information about his private book collection and cimelia.
