“Dear Paris, which I love” - in the letters to his mother by Agenor Gołuchowski the Younger

Abstract

The article is devoted to the image of Paris in the 1870s, as depicted in the correspondence of Agenor Gołuchowski the Younger. Gołuchowski, later the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria-Hungary, was at that time an employee of the Austro-Hungarian embassy in Paris and became deeply attached to the city during his several-year stay. In his letters, he describes the political situation prevailing in France at the time, his social life in Parisian salons, and events seen from his perspective, such as the World Exhibition organized in Paris in 1878.
