Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the principles of organisation and functioning of the Busko-Zdrój spa from the perspective of the Polish-language spa press at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The year 1836 is considered as the opening date of the Busko-Zdrój spa. The article pays special attention to the spa's predominant therapeutic and educational functions, highlighting the directions of its development, indicating the origins and operations of the spa at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It depicts the principles of managing the facility at Busko by doctors and their recommendations for patients, the daily rhythm of a patient’s life, and the forms of spending leisure time as reported by the discussed spa journals. The spa treated, among others, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatic diseases, and children's diseases.
