Abstract

The military aspects of Confederation of Bar, sofar, gained rather limited attention of scholars. The question of the use of reconaissance, as well as tactical and operational intelligence by the Confederate forces have been, almost totally absent in the subject literature. This article is based mostly on the papers of Józef Zaremba, regimentary of Sieradz and (between April 1770 and May 1772) supreme commander of the Confederate forces in Greater Poland, as well as on the memoirs of his secretary, Jędrzej Kitowicz. The Author seeks answers on the following questions: „how the Confederates were gathering information about the enemy?” „How much, in money, it costed them?” „Who were the spies and scouts working for the Confederates” and „how valuable was the information gathered by them?”
