Abstract

Home education returned to the Polish educational practice in the 1990s. The reintroduction of home schooling in Poland was available thanks to the change of political system – the state monopoly education collapsed along with the fall of socialism. In the 21st century, the home education community is rapidly growing – there are more and more families looking for an alternative to public education and deciding to practice homeschooling despite many obstacles.

In 2024, the number of home education students reached 1% of the population subject to compulsory schooling and compulsory education. It is then worthwhile to pursue further research on the functioning of home education in Poland and to describe the growing and diversifying group of families who take respon sibility for the education of their children.

The article contains a few of the author’s observations and comments concerning the changing needs and opportunities for homeschooling in Poland in recent years (formulated on the basis of many years of the author’s own research and a review of research conducted by other authors) and indicates the possible directions for further study.
