Abstrakt

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century in Poland, patterns of plaited furniture used for mass production by ‘factories’ (read: manufactories) changed in style only a little. There were no ground-breaking models with an outstanding form among them. Usually, these were comfortable and simple patterns, copied from the West. However, original and interesting Polish designs, different from those commonly made, were shown at industrial exhibitions and widely praised but did not enter mass production. Only a few examples of such furniture are known from archival photos taken on the exhibitions, in the theatre or in the company store. Their prototypes have not survived.
