Abstract

Pope Leo XIV’s exhortation „Dilexi te” is the first document of such a high rank of his teaching. Dedicated to the theme of love for the poor, it becomes a catechesis on love for the poor. Pope Leo XIV based the content of this exhortation largely on the teaching of
his predecessor, Pope Francis, who began preparing this document. An essential context for Pope Leo XIV’s teaching is his monastic experience. He was spiritually shaped by Augustinian spirituality and by practical work among the poor inhabitants of Peru; therefore, the catechesis on love for the poor should also be placed in this context. From this perspective, its main points are: faith „in love” with God, love as understanding, love as action, and love as unification and an act of worship of God.
